Barbara Keeley Former Labour Member of Parliament for Worsley & Eccles South
Barbara recently wrote to the City Mayor, Paul Dennett, in support of the campaign to name a road in Salford after Alan Henning. It is good news that the Council has now agreed to this and the Planning Team is working to find a suitable road that could be named after Alan Henning.
Barbara is proud to announce that she has also nominated Alan Henning to receive the Freedom of the City of Salford.
Barbara says:
“I am proud to nominate Alan Henning for Freedom of the City of Salford. His mission to help children in Syria was a remarkable one, as he repeatedly ignored his own safety to take aid to those most affected. On his fourth trip to Syria he was kidnapped and murdered by militant terrorists.
“I believe that his life and his sacrifice should be marked with this formal award by the city in which he was born and lived all his life.”
The nomination will be heard by the Awards Group at Salford City Council in October.
